Welcome to the web page for the Byron Union School District’s Department of Educational Services.  Consistent with our District’s vision, we strive to provide each and every student with an education that celebrates them as learners and fosters a lifelong desire to seek knowledge and understanding.  We work hard every day to achieve this goal by gathering necessary information to understand the unique needs of each student we serve, collaborating with parents and staff to develop support plans, utilizing research based strategies and evidence based interventions, and closely monitoring student progress.

The Department of Educational Services oversees special education services, section 504, foster youth, homeless youth, attendance, health services, and home and hospital instruction.

RE:        Prior Written Notice Re School/District Closure to Prevent/Contain the Spread of COVID-19             (Coronavirus)

This letter is a prior written notice  by the Byron Union School District (“District”), pursuant to 34 CFR § 300.503, and the closure of your child’s school beginning March 30, 2020 until school reopens when it is deemed safe to do so.

The District has determined that it is necessary to close its schools to prevent/contain the spread of COVID-19, in accordance with current guidance from state and federal agencies.  This determination has been made based on health and safety concerns for students, families, staff, and the community at large.

During the duration of the school dismissal, your child will receive special education and related services, to the greatest extent feasible, delivered in an alternative manner.  Your child's case manager will contact you to provide you with a plan to implement during this state of emergency/school dismissal.

In making its determination, the District reviewed and considered the following:

  • Recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control
  • Recommendations from the California Department of Education and the United States Department of Education
  • Recommendations from the Contra Costa County Department of Public Health
  • Guidance from Governor Newsom and
  • All other relevant information available to the District, including the Shelter in Place order currently in place in Contra Costa County and surrounding Bay Area counties.

Finally, please be advised that as a parent(s) or guardian(s) of a child with a disability, you have certain rights.  Attached you will find a copy of those parental rights and procedural safeguards.  Please feel free to contact me directly, if you have any questions or the California Department of Education at P.O. Box 944272, Sacramento
